The incident took place around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 at the Webster Bank branch located at 3546 Main St., in Bridgeport.
According to Detective Jeffrey Holtz, of the Bridgeport Police, the man leaped over the counter and demanded the teller hand over the cash.
After getting the cash, the man car-jacked a ride-sharing vehicle that brought him to the bank from the East Side of the city, Holtz said.
Minutes after the car-jacking, the suspect crashed the car on Thomas Street and fled on foot, police said.
The man is described as being Black in his mid-20s with "scruffy" facial hair, a small mustache, and long braids in a ponytail.
He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and black sneakers.
The Connecticut Bankers Reward Association is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest.
